Clean Eating Sloppy Joes

Recipe By Holistic Health by Holly

March Madness is among us, which means you might be heading to a watch party and need a dish to contribute to the spread. Or maybe you are looking for a clean, tasty recipe to feed you and your family. We are sure that these Clean Eating Sloppy Joes will hit the spot.

This recipe is inspired by the classic Sloppy Joe sandwich, but uses ingredients that fit perfectly into a healthy diet. Holly recommends switching things up and eating your Sloppy Joe meat with a side of roasted veggies, in a lettuce wrap, on spiralized raw veggies, or mixed in a bowl with other veggies.

  • 1 lb grass-fed ground beef

  • 2 tsp minced garlic

  • 1-2 T ghee

  • 1/2 large red onion, diced

  • 1 green pepper, diced

  • 1 cup organic ketchup (read the label and make sure it does not contain additives, preservatives, corn syrup, etc.)

  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos

  • 1 t dry mustard powder

  • Optional: 1/8 cup diced jalapeños

  • Brown the ground beef in a cast iron (or other) skillet at medium heat; stir often and break into small pieces. Once browned transfer into a glass bowl.

  • Meanwhile, chop you onion and green pepper

  • Add ghee. Once melted and minced garlic and let cook for 2 minutes; add onion and green pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the onion kind of transparent, and peppers look soft; stir occasionally to ensure everything is evenly cooked

  • Add back in the ground beef and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes

  • Pour ketchup and coconut aminos + ground mustard and jalapeños (if desired) into the skillet; stir well so everything is evenly mixed

  • Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally (remember to turn the heat down!)

  • Serve it up however you’d like and chow down!
